Evening House Fire in Frederick County
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

By Secretary Christopher Bowman
August 11, 2021

Shortly before 5:00 Wednesday evening, August 11, 2021 units from Frederick, Montgomery, and Carroll counties were alerted for the report of a house fire in the 9500 block of Ball Rd in Ijamsville. Crews arrived to find a large two story house with fire showing and additional units were requested. ET44 was alerted and responded on the tanker task force to assist with rural water supply operations. While operating in the house, Battalion Chief Joshua Laird (FE251, Green Valley) fell through a compromised area in the floor and later succumbed to his injuries.

The members and officers of the Lisbon Volunteer Fire Company extend their deepest sympathies to Battalion Chief Laird’s family, friends, and all of Frederick County DFRS.

During the incident E41 transferred to the New Market Volunteer Fire Department (Frederick Station 15) and remained until just after 22:00 when they responded to a vehicle collision with rescue in Mt. Airy and set up a landing site for MSP Trooper 3. ET44 also responded on the accident and assisted at the scene. While E41 and ET44 were committed in Frederick a crew staffed WS42 in the station.
