Lisbon units were dispatched at 0906 hrs for an overturned asphalt truck on Route 97 at Roxbury Mill Road with two subjects reportedly trapped and a large asphalt spill.

Paramedic 45 arrived on the scene first to find a small dump-truck on it's side, a significant amount of hot asphalt spread across the roadway, and the two occupants had self-extricated. When Engine 43 arrived on location, Chief 4 took command and held the assignment with themselves and Paramedic 45. One patient obtained a small area of burns, and after consulting, was transported by land to the local burn center. Weather conditions at the time were not conducive to utilizing a medevac.

The State Highway Administration kept Route 97 closed for several hours while they cleaned up the spilled asphalt.

Initial crews on the scene were confronted with multiple vehicles that did not stop at the ambulance blocking the road. This not only placed themselves at risk due to the hot asphalt spill, but also placed the rescue crews at risk of being injured while on the scene. The members of the Lisbon VFC would like to take this opportunity to remind you to yield to emergency equipment. Please do your part to keep us safe!
