The members and officers would like to take a moment to recognize a few of our members on their accomplishments.

First, Firefighter Richard Mills just recently successfully passed his Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute, Firefighter 1 program. This 135 hour program teaches the basics of firefighting, including the different pieces of personal protective equipment and self contained breathing apparatus, hose line deployment and management, ladder uses and techniques, forcible entry, search and rescue and of course fire suppression.

Richard has been a member with us since 2020 and in his time in the department, has already taken other classes such as Protective Equipment and Foam, and Hazardous Materials Awareness. He is now enrolled in a Firefighter Survival and Rescue class and continually strives to further his education.

Firefighter 1 is one of 3 classes we ask our fire suppression members to attain within the first few years. The other two are Hazardous Materials Operations and either Emergency Medical Technician or Emergency Medical Responder.

Next is Firefighter/EMT Jonathan Lockhoff. Jon recently successfully acquired his Maryland State Commercial Class B drivers license, this license allows him to drive our heavier equipment and took months of studying, memorization and practice in order to be able to pass the CDL testing for the MVA. Along with his CDL, he also successfully completed a MFRI Pump Operator course. This 36 hour course educates students on the basics of pump hydraulics and goes over pressures, flow rates and friction loss. All necessary information in order to become a driver operator of a piece of fire apparatus, it’s a lot more than just pushing a button!

Jon has been a member with us since 2015 and currently holds the positions of Firefighter/EMT and plans to begin the check off process to officially drive our heavy apparatus!

Pumping Apparatus Driver/Operator and Emergency Vehicle Operator as well as a class B license are all requirements in order to drive our heavy apparatus.

Last but certainly not least is Firefighter/EMT Anney Smith. Anney recently graduated with not her first degree, but her SECOND! Anney successfully completed her coursework for a Bachelors degree in Fire Arson and Explosion Investigations through Eastern Kentucky University, all while also working fulltime!

Anney has been a firefighter/EMT with us since 2016 and also just recently took over as the liaison for our medical physical/health and safety program, working to ensure all our operational members are up to date following standards set by the National Fire Protection Association!

Great work to all three of you as well as the countless members currently taking or about to start taking classes while remaining dedicated to serve your community! We thank you!

Maybe one day we will see YOUR name here! It’s only an application away, we’re always accepting members!
