At 3:49am on Sunday, August 29th units were alerted for a vehicle accident on I-70 Eastbound between the Woodbine Rd overpass and the on-ramp with unknown injuries. Shortly after dispatch the call was upgraded with the report of 2 occupants trapped. RE4, P45, and CF4 responded along with units from Mt. Airy and HCDFRS. RE4 arrived to find a single vehicle off the roadway on its side with both occupants trapped. Within minutes the crew from RE4 stabilized the vehicle and extricated the first patient while CF4 established command. Crews continued to work and within 20 minutes the second patient was extricated. Aviation was requested, but not available due to weather, so P45 and P135 transported the patients to area hospitals. Crews operated on scene for approximately 40 minutes before turning the scene over to MSP and returning to service.
