At just after 3:50 pm on Tuesday June 18th units from Lisbon and Glenwood were alerted for a vehicle accident with unknown injuries on I-70 eastbound in the area of Woodbine Rd. RE4 and P136 responded (P45 was on another call) and while enroute were advised that additional calls had come in reporting the driver of the box truck involved was trapped. The assignment was upgraded to a heavy rescue due to a truck being involved, which brought additional units from Mt. Airy, West Friendship, and HCDFRS Special Operations. RE4 arrived to find a three vehicle accident involving a box truck on I-70 a half mile east of Woodbine Rd. CF4A arrived and assumed command of the incident and confirmed that there were multiple patients and an active fuel leak from the box truck. One pediatric patient was inconvenienced in their vehicle, so the crew from RE4 used the extrication tools to remove them. After further evaluation, aviation was requested to transport the pediatric patient. P45 was requested after clearing their earlier call to transport an additional patient to an area hospital. Several others were evaluated, but refused EMS care. Fire department turned the scene over to MSP and cleared just before 5:30 pm.
