With predictions of significant snow accumulations with gusting winds and wind chills in the negative numbers, it is important to consider the risk of driving in dangerous conditions. The Maryland State Police have the following recommendations: If you must travel, prepare! Remember that the snow plows must have your cooperation in order to clear the snow from the road. They are able to more quickly clear the roads with less traffic-- stay home unless it is and emergency during and immediately after the storm. Allow a sufficient and safe working area-- do not follow the plow trucks more than 25 feet and do not pass them. There is a high chance that they may not see you, and the snow and salt being thrown can be dangerous to you and your vehicle. If in doubt, stay home! |
