| At approximately 16:00 hours (4:00 pm), tones were dropped for a building fire in Mount Airy involving hazardous materials. Engine 41 quickly responded with 5 personnel. Carroll County Engine 12 (Mount Airy) arrived with smoke showing from one of the doors and layed a supply line from the nearest hydrant. E-41 arrived shortly after and picked up the supply line from the hydrant, followed by Rescue 1. E-41's crew proceeded to the scene and requested instructions. The crew assisted in preparing lights and fans for the first 15 to 20 minutes. Crews inside the building found the fire and proceeded in trying to put it out with special extinguishers. When E-12's crew came out, two members of E-41's crew went inside and continued to try to extinguish the fire. After half of E-41's crew made a decent knock on the fire, they backed out and the other two members of E-41's crew went inside and finally extinguished the fire. Crews from Carroll, Howard, Montgomery, and Frederick Counties operated on the scene for about 3 hours. Great work was done by all. |
