By Sergeant Kyle Stull
August 21, 2015

On August 21st at around noon, Engine 41, Paramedic 45, Carroll County Rescue 1 and Carroll County Paramedic 18, were dispatched for the rescue with unknown injuries on interstate 70 in the area of West Watersville road.

Shortly after responding, Howard told units to switch over to Bravo 1 because they were receiving reports of multiple patients trapped and were upgrading the assignment.

The rescue with entrapment assignment then brought Battalion Chief 2, EMS 1(who was in the area and responded in place of EMS2), and Safety 1.

While responding, comments had been added that there were reports of up to 7 subjects trapped and an additional transport unit was requested.

Paramedic 45 and Engine 41 arrived on location approximately 1 mile west of West Watersville road on interstate 70, with one vehicle in the trees in the median. 45 advised that everyone appeared out of the vehicle and Engine 41 established the I-70 command.

Carroll Rescue 1, Chief 1 and Paramedic 18 arrived and began triaging the subjects on the scene, while Paramedic 45 was treating one of the patients. After triage, it was determined that a total of 4 transport units were needed including the units on scene. This request brought 135 and Carroll Paramedic 19.

Engine Tanker 44 arrived and shut down the second lane to provide a buffer for the units operating. Command also placed Battalion Chief 2, EMS 1 and Safety 1 in service after it was determined that they were not needed on the incident.

A total of 6 patients were transported to a local facility with non-life threatening injuries.
