By EMS Lieutenant Amanda Barnett
December 13, 2011

On Tuesday, December 13th at 0324 hours (3:24am), units from Lisbon and surrounding companies were alerted for a box alarm-- reported barn fire immediately south of I-70 at mile marker 74 with multiple callers. P-45 travelled to I-70 to get a better location while E-41 committed to Frederick Road. Upon merging onto I-70 east from Woodbine Road, P-45 located and reported a large barn well involved with multiple pieces of farm equipment and an adjacent barn as exposures. E-41 arrived on location of the corrected address of the 15000 block of Frederick Road and announced that they were taking a defensive attack to protect the immediate exposure of a school bus with a pending structure collapse.

Chief 4 assumed command while E-42 established a water supply from the pond located on the property. The barn containing hay and several pieces of farm equipment were a total loss. The majority of the units cleared the scene by 0630 hours (6:30am) with E-41 finally clearing the scene at 1730 hours (5:30pm)-- 14 hours after the initial dispatch.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Howard County Fire Marshall's Office.

Special thanks to A-36 (West Friendship) and Montgomery E-713 (Damascus) for providing fill-in crews while Lisbon's units were on the scene.
