| Mr. Leland C. "Bubby" Bowman, 82, of Woodbine, died Thursday, July 22, 2010. He was the husband of Doris (Ward) Bowman, his wife of 56 years.
Born April 29, 1928, in Howard County, he was the son of the late Augustus L. and Bessie Elizabeth Gillis Bowman.
He was a mechanic at Lisbon Farm Supply until he began a career with the Howard County government as a mechanic and welder. In 1992 he retired after 29 years of service.
Mr. Bowman was a lifetime member of the Lisbon Volunteer Fire Co., with 60 years of service.
He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, camping and grilling for his family and friends.
In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his children, Deb Bowman of Mount Airy, Don Bowman and wife, Jean, and Rick Bowman, all of Woodbine; his brother, Roby Bowman of Woodbine; and his sisters-in-law, Dorothy Bowman of Woodbine, Violet Bowman of Florida, Eva Rice of Laurel and Alice Ingram of West Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Lee, George, Gus, Dick, Stanley, Nicie, Benson and Basil; and his sisters, Mary Francis and Ellen.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, July 26, and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mount Airy. The Lisbon Volunteer Fire Co. will hold a memorial service Tuesday evening. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, at the funeral home. Pastor Ken McDonald will officiate.
Interment will be in Poplar Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be made to the Lisbon Volunteer Fire Co.
